Bi-annual newsletter nr 23 – January 2022 Edition

A message from the President

Dear members and friends,
During the year 2021 just past, not all our planned activities were able to take place. We did, however, manage to stage two summer concerts. Our new internet site is now operational and we invite you to visit it. There you will find information about the association, the history of the abbey, our Cluniac footpaths (Guyenne-Gascogne and Pays de Serres), our events – and you can now pay your subscriptions online, as well as reserve and pay for concerts via HelloAsso.

Planned projects:

Projects postponed in 2020/2021, now brought forward:
• To organise one or two big walks in spring/summer.
• To hold an educational and entertaining historical trail competition around our abbey, to encourage young people’s interest in our historical heritage.
• This summer we offer two new concerts, to be held in the abbey gardens.

Planned tasks and appeal for volunteers:

In the spring, as every year, we must check and refurbish the way marking along the Cluniac trail of Guyenne-Gascogne and, above all, create the signs and way marking for the new trail loops in the Pays de Serres. These are huge jobs, so we shall need help. We’ll need it equally to organise the events described above. The committee members simply cannot manage these tasks alone.
We make this appeal to you – all volunteers welcome!

Recent progress by the European Federation of Cluniac Sites (FESC):

The application for UNESCO recognition of Cluniac sites is progressing, despite COVID and several sites have already submitted their claims. The various FESC management committees have not yet been set up.

Call for associations’ projects in Lot-et-Garonne, 2022:

We would be grateful for your support in realising our new project.
Vote for the project Chemins de Cluny en Pays de Serres ! Project #1003 !

Annual General Meeting:

Our AGM will be held during the second half of March. We’ll let you know the date and other details as soon as possible.

Subscriptions:

We thank members who have paid their 2021 subscriptions; from now on you can pay those for this year as well. The amount remains unchanged: 15 € for active members and 30 € for honorary members (if possible via our internet site).

The members of the committee and the management committee join me in wishing you all the best for this new year.

Gérard Deflisque
President
