Martine and Gabriel took part in the Cluniac hike organised by the Moirax and Mouchan sites, in collaboration with the Activ’Mouv47 association.
The walk took place on Saturday 24 May 2025 and took participants from Mouchan to the medieval village of Larressingle. A visit to this most beautiful village in France was organised in conjunction with the local tourist office.
After a tasting of Floc de Gascogne and a packed lunch, the hikers set off on their return journey via the Artigue bridge, a medieval bridge listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, and the church of Vopillon, the remains of a convent established by the Benedictine monks of the Mouchan priory.
On arrival, the Mayor gave a tour of the Mouchan priory church, now a parish church. The priory of Mouchan was built in the 11th century by the Order of Cluny; it suffered devastation during the Hundred Years’ War and the Wars of Religion. The latter proved fatal, and the monks abandoned the site, which was then used as a stone quarry.
The day ended with a drink hosted by the commune of Mouchan.
