Around a hundred people took part in the various activities organised by the Amis de l’Abbaye de Saint-Maurin to celebrate this anniversary. It was a wonderful day and a wonderful party!
Two hikes along the new Cluny Trail in the Pays de Serres gave around thirty walkers the chance to discover :
– in the morning, the churches of Saint-Pierre del Pech and Notre-Dame de Cambot along a 10km route
– in the afternoon, the Ferrussac mill on a 9km loop.
Hikers enjoyed the history and architecture panels at each site, as well as the virtual tours.
At the same time, for those who didn’t want to walk, demonstrations of ancient trades and tools took place under the halle.
Patrice Mercourt demonstrated the work of a blacksmith, while Cyril Smolack captivated the public by explaining how medieval tools were working.
The association also offered guided tours of the ethnographic museum and the remains of the abbey, which were a great success.
A country-style buffet was served at lunchtime. After lunch, Mr Pokora told us some extraordinary stories from the Pays de Serres region.
Everyone met up again at around 5.30pm for a convivial musical evening with Robert Weddle on the organ and Ersnt von Toelpel on the viol.Ernst suggested that we rehearse some songs in the square before the performance in the church. Purcell, Handel, Bach and others were on the programme.
A final banquet concluded this wonderful day.
A fireworks show was put on by two extraordinary artists who thrilled the audience – well done!
